One Hundred Days – Day 1

The alp season has started! Last week, I went up to the Steinwurf Alp to photograph everyone’s arrival. This year I will be going up there a lot more often, mostly for some special occasions – Alpsegnung (the alp blessing, done by the local priest), an alp mass (Daniela and Reto have been telling me about this, the location is supposed to be spectacular and all the attendants are bringing their own little bowl for the coffee afterwards), and the 1. August fire. After one hundred days on the alp, the farmers will go pick up their cattle which is also something I want to document.

For this year’s reportage, I’m planning on using two cameras at the same time, the Hasselblad and the Canon, but so far I’m not very happy with the results. I started working with two cameras last year when I photographed Sunita Dhusiya in Ahmadabad. I forgot how cumbersome they are (hauling around six lenses in total) and how quickly I have to decide which camera to use in which situation – hopefully I will become better at it during the course of the summer. But without further ado, here are some pictures of the Kathriners’ very first day on the alp.
