Documentaries

I recently saw a bunch of documentaries – “Vol Spécial” made me cry and understand why Amnesty International has some serious concerns about the state of human rights in Switzerland. I can’t wait to see Fernand Melgar’s other movie, “La Forteresse,” but expect to be similarly depressed afterwards.

“How to Make a Book with Steidl” put me in a bad mood. There is nothing exciting, remarkable or remotely revolutionary about an old man making books for other old men. Also, the movie was extremely badly filmed. I simply cannot take film makers seriously who use an iPhone as their primary camera (nor can I take Joel Sternfeld seriously when he publishes a book with iPhone pictures).

“Page One” and “Bill Cunningham New York” were so inspiring that I watched them twice and will probably watch them again.

“The Strange Disappearance of the Bees” was the only highlight on a veeeeery long US Airways flight, and should be mandatory for everyone to see.
