I just found out that: teaching a photo workshop is sooo much fun!
This week, I taught a photography workshop to 14-year-old kids at a school in my neighborhood. I started out with a lesson on photos on Facebook and how kids deal with them. What kind of impression do they get from someone’s photos on their profile? We also looked at photos of celebrities and the students discussed why they liked them (or not) and then described the impressions the stars give or vibes they tried to go for. I introduced photo terms like “documentary” and “staged” which the kids picked up and started using right away.
Afterwards, I gave the girls cameras (accidentally, it was an all-girls-class) and they had to photograph each other in staged settings – in the make-shift photo studio that we set up in the class room, but also outside, using the school premises as a back drop. It was awesome what the girls came up with during these three days and I’m happy and proud to share some shots here.
